One Room Challenge Fall • Patio Reveal

The time has come, to reveal (Ru-veal!) FOR. YOUR. LIIIFE! YAS KWNS! We done did it! It's been a fun seven weeks (typically six) and I'm so happy with how @Handrogyny's patio turned out for the fall edition of One Room Challenge!

Before I get into all the details, I wanna thank Linda, the founder of ORC, for hosting, organizing, and being so badass and on top of everything. We couldn't have done this without her! Sweet thanks to the generous sponsors (The Mine, Article, HayneedleFarrow & Ball, and Overstock) for helping us make this transformation happen. And House Beautiful for being the best media partner. And lastly, my girl, Han for collaborating on this with me.

Now, let's take a quick look at the before backyard again, shall we? It wasn't exciting back there. Just your basic ol' yard with some grass and a whole lotta dog poop. It's not big so we wanted to create an intimate and vibrant space to chill and hang out year round in Los Angeles. We knew from the very beginning that we wanted to bring in some of that Moroccan magic, aka tiles! We poured concrete and created a 12x12 surface to work with.

And bada-bing bada-boom shakalaka! Even though it's a small yard we still got tiles for daaays! Overstock did not disappoint with their huge selection of Moroccan cement tiles. They're one of my secret tile sources and guess what, they ship them for free, too! I'm so glad we decided to lay out these blue and orange star tiles on the steps to the guest house. The patio is like a private oasis. I'm ready to move in, even though we just bought a new house in L.A. (umm...more on that later! Eee!).

Two tall birds of paradise flanking both sides of the french door makes it more dramatic and jungalow, don't you think? All the colorful pillows are from Morocco. I couldn't resist hanging two Tonga baskets and a bright yellow Juju hat I found on eBay. The green fence needed something! I was telling Han how I really wanted to keep this really minimal and neutral but it's just not in me. I need color and pattern!

I was going back and forth about the paint but I have zero regrets now. The accent wall is perfect. We love it. We used Farrow & Ball Calke Green (exterior eggshell). The black handwoven basket is perfect for storing pillows and throws. We picked black planters, pots, and baskets to ground that corner since the fence was green and the rocks were white. The rocks were totally Han's idea. And I love how much brighter it makes the space feel.

I love the clever handle design on this side table. It makes it easy to shuffle it around. The rattan chairs are also from Article. They have really high-quality furniture at really affordable prices.

And that's a wrap! Don't you just wanna move right in and sway in that hanging chair all day and night?! Well, you can actually! Han's place is on Airbnb so if you're looking for a place to stay in Los Angeles, it's the perfect spot! They're in Highland Park. We hope you enjoyed this fun transformation. Thanks for following along!
