Hosting An Epic Holiday Party (With a Little Help From American Express)

Despite the inherent frenzy that comes with the territory this time of year (between the traveling, shopping, card-sending, gift wrapping, cooking, etc), the holidays always manage to bring me a particular sense of joy. The time spent with family, the excitement of giving and receiving thoughtful presents, decking the house with garland and twinkling lights, and gathering friends for merry festivities are just a few of the things I love about Christmas time. And even as overwhelming as planning a truly epic holiday bash seems, it’s one thing that’s not going to intimidate me this year, especially after attending last night’s American Express Epic Everyday dinner, hosted by newlyweds (and, hello, Pitch Perfect stars!) Anna Camp and Skylar Astin.
I’ve hosted my fair share of Christmas parties, but it’s easy to get into a routine of what to serve, how to decorate, and activities to do, so last night’s event was right on cue to offer up some fresh ideas for my soiree this year. The cute couple shared a few of their perfect party foods, including prosciutto stuffed dates and bread pudding, plus Amex provided spiced sweet potato soup, which was spiked with cumin and cayenne and made creamy with a splash of coconut milk — definitely one I’ll be copycatting!
Additionally, the party had a festive photo booth — essential at any decent party these days — and an activity station for creating cute Christmasy doggie collars. Considering the fact that so many of my friends have pooches, this would be such a hit, so I’ll definitely be including this one for some interactive good times. Though I didn’t exactly need any help getting into the holiday spirit, I’m psyched to add a few new tricks to my holiday party repertoire, and I think my squad is going to love them as well.
