A Day of Inspired Design with Delta Faucet
Last month, I went to Chicago for the very first time. Can you believe that? I don't know what took me so long! I was thrilled when Delta invited me to attend A Day of Inspired Design in the Windy City along with other bloggers and designers. It was hosted by YoungHouseLove and She She.
We kicked it off at the LondonHouse which overlooks the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. Then we were all packed into a cute trolley and headed to the Delta showroom in the Merchandise Mart, which featured a lot of art deco designs. These elevators gave me the feels! At the showroom, Delta designers discussed how water can transform the way you feel and live.
Afterwards, we went to what was probably my favorite building, the Chicago Cultural Center. It was built in 1897 originally as a library but later converted to an arts center. The stunning Tiffany Dome is jaw dropping. I love all the gorgeous green stained-glass work. Even the marble walls had stunning tile inlay.
Then we made our way to our fourth stop at the Museum Campus where we were treated with this breathtaking skyline of Chicago.
Our fifth stop was at the Centennial Fountain which was built in 1999 to celebrate the reversing of the flow of the Chicago River back in 1900. Apparently, the river was really filthy with garbage back then and now, it has such beautiful deep emerald color.
And finally, we headed back to LondonHouse for our inspiration collage challenge. You heard that right! It wouldn't be a day of inspired design without a design challenge! We had to pull all our inspirations from the day and create a mood board for — you guessed it — a bathroom refresh! Luckily, I brought some styling props from home, because I came to slay! You feelin' me?! It was awesome. And whoever wins the challenge gets a chance to collaborate with She She! There were two winners! Yellow Brick Home and I won the challenge! So excited!
For my bathroom, I was inspired by all the art deco and geometric patterns in Chicago mixed in with the movement of the Chicago River. Even from staring out of my hotel room and looking at all the lines from the buildings in relationship with the organic elements really influenced my moodboard.
And here’s my current bathroom situation. The tiles are so dated. It feels like someone went to the beach and poured sand all over this bathroom. This refresh will mostly be a facelift. We’re not moving around any plumbing or removing walls. I plan to take the tub out though to create a walk-in shower. Cabinets will be painted in a sage green color. I’m putting in a Carrara marble vanity top along with the Zura faucet from Delta which has a rounded, rectangular, and triangular design. It’ll be so chic. And I finally get to use tumbling block tiles in my home! Decorating the walls are framed artworks by She She. I can't wait to share the whole process with you guys!
The most inspiring part of this day wasn't just having the opportunity to see and learn about some of Chicago's famous architecture and history, but it was also getting to meet bloggers and designers. I finally got to meet Kirsten of Simply Grove and she was so fun and sweet. And I just adore the talented women behind She She. I was telling them how lonely the freelance life can be and how awesome it was for Delta to create this event and bring a bunch of creatives together. Cause at the end of the day, even though we're all doing our own thing, it's about meeting other people, and sharing stories and inspiration.
I was also able to squeeze in some thrifting time. It's one of my favorite things to do whenever I visit a new city. They had the most beautiful tiles I've ever seen in a thrift shop near Logan Square. There will indubitably be new hex tiles going in the bathroom refresh!
